Is that a finished object?

24 Oct

Baby Lug would like to present my first finished object in a very, very long time:

It’s Jan’s Sensational Scarf from One Skein Wonders knit in recycled silk yarn on cheapy size 10 metal needles.
I’d knit this scarf pattern again. It’s super simple and would definitely look different depending on the yarn you use. If you can knit more than 10 rows at a time (unlike myself) without falling asleep or getting distracted, I bet you could knit this in a day. I have to say I don’t really like knitting with this yarn at all, but the fabric result is pretty cool. You can see the variation in the yarn in this picture. This was knit with two skeins.

Yay for a finished object!
Mr. Lug has been off this week, preparing for his new job that he starts next week. He’s been working on the house and we spent the weekend in South Jersey visiting family. Work continues to be very busy for me, I made a pot pie, I am thinking about planning Thanksgiving, giving out halloween candy, and someday taking a vacation. All-in-all, a pretty typical week.

Quick Update: Baby Knit

15 Oct

I actually knitted this a while ago – I think before I had the baby. It’s the “lil devil” pattern. This is a super cute, super quick knit. I used Lion Brand yarn. I forget what kind – it was a stash buster.
As you can tell from Baby Lug’s face, he’s not too happy with wearing this, but who cares? It’s so cute!

Photographic evidence

I think it’s a sign of bravery to post embarassing pictures of yourself on your blog…

Can you dig it? This is one of my BETTER outfits in 1991. The girl next to me was named Elizabeth but I can’t remember her last name. I’ve blurred her face to protect the innocent. We’re sitting in front of the bleachers (folded up) in gym class. Gym class – oh how I hated you with your floor hockey, weight lifting and inevitable moment of me taking a volley/basket/kick ball to the face. That year I got a ring watch for my birthday (wow) and I left it in my gym locker and someone stole it. Kids in my school used to hate getting dressed for gym so they’d put on huge sweatpants and t-shirts over their clothes. It seemed completely reasonable at the time. Now that I look back on it, it’s so weird and kind of gross.
This was 7th grade. I was into the B52s, U2, REM, and Boys2Men. I was probably watching Wings, Roseanne, Twin Peaks, and that Dinosaurs show (remember that?!). I was SO into Twin Peaks. This is the year before I started really hanging out with my best friend Kate and turning to the Cure, the Smiths, wearing black, teasing my hair, and general rebellion. That’s probably the key to the awkward stage – it’s usually right when you’re coming out of being a cute little kid and before you make it to full out crazy teenager. It’s really a terrible time to go through, but really funny to look back on as an adult.
I encourage you to scan and post your awkward pictures – it’s therapeutic!
