Maternity Leave

27 Mar

So the baby has decided he will come out when he damn well pleases. Granted my due date IS April 1st, so I’m still a few days away from having a real reason to evict him.
So here I am on maternity leave, yet without a baby – so what is a girl to do? I know what you’re thinking. Uninterrupted knitting time. Well there has been some knitting and today I’m going to pick out more projects to work on because I happen to be one of those crazy people that goes slightly bonkers when I have no plans in sight and no work to do.
I did complete a few baby bibs a la Mason Dixon knitting. I took a shot of them outside since it’s close to 70 degrees today!

Now for a few things I like and dislike right now:
I hate Pledge. We got some new bedroom furniture and I used Pledge on it and it did a really weird thing to the finish. So I discovered the miracle of Method Wood for Good furniture cleaner and let me tell you, I totally dorked out about it and even made Mr. Lug watch me clean our bookshelves with it so he could see how good it is. See what happens when I have no job?

Racheal Ray. Ok so I used to be a 30-minute-meals fan. When she first came out there were a few of her recipes that I tried and liked. But lately, she’s everywhere people. Everywhere. And I tried to watch her daytime talk show, but I found it cringe-worthy. Also I’ve tried two of her more recent recipes lately to close-to-disasterous results. The Risotto? Gummy. The broccoli chicken mac and cheese thingy? Watery. Racheal Ray you’re on my list.

The Today Show. I watch this in the morning while I eat my Special K with Red Berries. I never noticed before what a spectacle this show is. Yesterday was the third time I’ve seen Merideth Viera get hurt while trying to be funny. And Giada De Laurentis is co-hosting. Why?

Battlestar Gallactica. Does anyone else watch this show out there? It’s both good an bad. I liked this season a lot, but I haven’t been a die-hard fan that long, and I know people who’ve watched from the beginning are not huge fans of this season. Well the season is over and now we won’t know what happens in their search for Earth until 2008.
Well hopefully Baby Lug will be in the next entry, if not you know I’ll be eating spicy food, walking like crazy, trying to convince myself that I can evict this baby…

A Letter to Baby Lug

18 Mar

Dear Baby Lug,
This is your mother:

I wanted to let you know that you can come out now. It is obvious that you are running out of room in there. There are wonderful things waiting for you like sunshine, headbanger’s ball, watching your dad curse as he puts together nursery furniture, odd changes in the weather, and entertaining HDTV. I will bend the rule of no TV before age 2 if you will come out. I will bribe you. I will basically do whatever you want.
Yes I know it’s 2 weeks before your due date, but honestly, I’m tired of working. I’d like to take a break now. I think that if you come out, though I will be tired, it’ll be better than working. Yes. I am betting on that one.
Plus I’d like to meet you.
If you are worried about not having enough clothes to wear, let me set your mind at ease:

See, you have an asinine amount of clothing waiting for you. Plus three bouncy chairs, a crib, a bassinet, a play pen, and a variety of other entertaining items.
So, no pressure, but if you want to come out early, we’re ready.
Sincerely,
Your mom

The Bow Hat Strikes Again

13 Mar

That’s right folks, still no baby. But there was a baby shower this weekend.

Just when I thought my days of wearing a bow-hat were over…The shower was really nice and Baby Lug got a ton of stuff. This kid is rolling in it and has a wardrobe large enough for at least 6 costume changes a day.
Work is winding down and baby prep is in full force – there is baby stuff all over this house. I have my hospital bag packed and ready to go. Now I just have to…wait…
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
